The colour shading displays the monthly anomalies of 2m temperature, air temperature at 850hPa and geopotential at 500hPa (in degrees celsius resp. metres). The contour lines denote anomalies relative to the local standard deviation. Data before September 2002 is based on ERA-40. Afterwards, operational ECMWF analysis fields are employed (the difference in orography is accounted for using a lapse rate of 6K/km).
